Description [ correction ]

The Maletsunyane Falls is very close to the village of Semonkong. This is the highest falls for abseiling, and the hikes down the gorge or to the top viewpoint on the opposite side is excellent exercise. Semonkong means 'place of smoke' from how the falls rushes down and creates water spray that looks like smoke. The water plummets 186 metres into a spectacular gorge. The waterfall is on the Maletsunyane River and it falls from a ledge of Triassic-Jurassic basalt. The Maletsunyane Abseil is the longest commercially operated single-drop abseil in the world of 204m (670ft) down the Maletsunyane waterfall, operated by Semonkong Lodge, Lesotho. A maximum of 15 people per training for the Maletsunyane Falls abseil. For more information about the waterfall visitors contact the Semonkong Lodge.
